El presidente electo de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, ha advertido de que Washington impondrá un impuesto fronterizo del 35% a los vehículos que BMW planea construir en una nueva planta en México y exportar al mercado estadounidense. Trump realizó estas declaraciones en una entrevista con el diario alemán 'Bild', que ha divulgado extractos de los comentarios de Trump traducidos al alemán. Una portavoz de BMW dijo que una planta del Grupo BMW en San Luis Potosí ensamblaría la Serie 3 del BMW a partir de 2019 y que su producción irá destinada al mercado mundial. La planta en México será un añadido a las instalaciones productivas ya existentes del Serie 3 en Alemania y China. Trump dijo que BMW debería construir su nueva planta en Estados Unidos porque esto sería "mucho mejor" para la compañía.
