Description: A different kind of friction fire. One of the easiest fire making methods I've ever used, The Fire Roll Technique. Give it a try! My friend Gullrica gave this method the name Fire Roll. My own experimentations begin with this video. Special thanks to Tletlcalli Casa del Fuego! :) He taught me this. His video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?vCB_ep... ***I looked into the origins of this method and all I could find was that a German survival expert, Rudiger Nehberg, wrote about it in his book. Apparently, prisoners of war during WWII used this method in concentration camps to light cigarettes. I believe this is called "wool skating" in Europe. I'm sure there is more to the origins of this method. Here is a short video of Rudiger Nehberg : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vm6NA6EL7T7Q&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSZ6RWUifqAiFpH7Q-I3AjZG&index1**Video links to accelerants other than Ash that I came up with**Bracket Fungus : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vypyGm_2IYk4&index18&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJRust : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vh2fJ8FYKZs4&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJ&index22Dung (manure) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vjQwgmAzc0gs&index27&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJAA Battery contents : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v-xyfNNdrWRc&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJ&index33Potassium Permanganate : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vYFhTGZfakFA&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJ&index26Calcium Hypochlorite (Bleach) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vZLdC8-LulHE&index28&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJDeer Antler (bone dust) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vhkMSnAt9y_w&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJ&index31Hand Warmer contents : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vYnkjs3PktLk&index43&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJInstant Cold Pack contents : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vnXrpPFIj4Xk&index44&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJBaking Soda : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vlLyD5MEP2rQ&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJ&index45Oxygen Absorber contents : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vM5E_MSSktqk&index48&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJSoda Ash (Soda Wash) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?vpFdkhEwN2Oo&index49&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJCoffee (Instant) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v-JwF0bpgtoE&index50&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJTobacco (Cigar) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v3pzQDY4eArA&listPLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJ&index51The accelerants above are sensitive to friction and heat. 2015 05 25 first try with bamboo shavings : unexpected success :-) ... well... after numerous fails with other local fibers from old hemp stems and old yucca leaves. Previously, I used old dry hemp stems and old dry yucca leaves, and I couldn't extract clean fibers; but with an old dry piece of bamboo : no problem. I had to see a video (https://youtu.be/rZVb8M8bXrI) from user "stella lee" - showing a performance of bamboo fire saw - before I was able to guess that bamboo shavings may adequately form a resilient roll, and that "bamboo fire saw" "friction of bamboo on bamboo" "fire roll with bamboo roll". Surprisingly, the "rolling" process seems to divide the shavings into thin fibers; not as thin as cotton fibers maybe. Sure enough this vid was abridged and I needed 12mn 45 to obtain the first flame. The real durations are as follow : Making bamboo shavings : around 4mn ; Forming the bamboo roll : 1mn 40s ; Compressing the roll by hand : 22s ; Compressing the roll with a rock : 30 s ; Rolling + verifications & roll shortening : 2mn 50s ; Searching for the coal in the roll : 50s ; Blowing on the coal : 24s ; Making the fire from the coal : 2mn 20s ; Letting the fire burn (bamboo leaves) : 32s ; Gathering the ashes / charcoal : 2mn. I found a nice couple of Yucca plants on the side of the road and got 3 leaves. I made a video about stripping fibers from it and 3 hours later when those fibers were dry, I made this video. Please watch both. Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of this video. How to Remove Fibers from Yucca.http://youtu.be/ylkMM5VHmWY

In this video I demonstrate the Rudiger Roll Friction Fire method using only tree bark, a flat stone and Hemp fiber. The point of this video is to prove that tools are not necessary using this method. The tree bark and stone were collected on my hike today. No tools or ash were used and no preparation was required. I have used Yucca, Jute and a few other plant fibers on natural surfaces without ash as well. The more coarse a fiber is increases your chances of success using this method without an accelerant. I still maintain that accelerants are better to use with this method. Not all fibers will work like this without an accelerant( i.e. Ash, Rust, etc;). Hemp is a very good fiber to use with this method. Here is the first video using Hemp with the fire roll: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v L1Ko1NoWXCE All natural material can be used with the fire roll and sometimes reqiures no preparation as demonstrated in this video. Stones can be used in the same manner as above. For videos using stones with the fire roll go here: https://youtu.be/0tB0KDF-jBs or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v RRrph4aK0Bw To see the Fire Roll performed with Indian Hemp (Dogbane) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v kaT8ARUVg8w To see the Fire Roll performed with tree bark only as the rolling surfaces : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v Oruoqsqa0lk A playlist of various materials that I came up with using this method can be found here : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list PLPUSw5w2ZpSaoXXuUMrbxUE4mjmoW1zYJ

The Rudiger roll is the latest idea of lighting fires in a bushcraft and survival situation. Shout out to boggycreekbeast, check out his channel for more on the subject In a bushcraft, survival or prepping environment, starvation is a distinct probability. Getting a little practice in before hand isent a bad Idea. I continually condition my self for bad situations using everyday techniques. Most of us these days are used to and struggle with dieting, so it should come as no surprise when it actually happens. But there is a big difference between having to and wanting to. http://thegreatoutdoorsstore.org http://endtimestimeline.net/ http://prepperssupplys.info Prepping is, preparing for things unseen or unknown, there are so many things that can happen it is impossible to prepare for them all and history dictates a disaster is never far away. Survival preparation goes hand in hand with Prepping. it is a way to reediness. and can be fun. well as much fun as gardening, mountain biking, going to the gym and the likes, but it also builds up life skills which one day might save your life. Bush craft, these days has a large following. and offers a great way of building up outdoor skills and mindsets. Its a great place to start and many of our children already get involved with outdoor pursuits, not to mention the huge adult following, Lofty Wiseman Bear Grills Ray Mears to name but a few have accelerated bush craft and survival in the last few years buy bringing to the television screens what was normally kept for the military.
