Air Force One, the call sign of whichever Air Force plane the President of the United States is flying on, has long been known for the security and comfort it provides its famous cargo. But everything changed with Sept. 11, 2001. The crew realized the plane had weaknesses. It lacked features that would have let President George W. Bush address the nation. The Presidential Airlift Group (PAG), in charge of Air Force One, stepped up its game, and managed to take Bush to Baghdad on a top-secret mission in the dark of night to serve Thanksgiving dinner to troops in 2003. The National Geographic Channel took a behind-the-scenes look at the Flying White House in "Onboard Air Force One," an in-depth look at the PAG, the cavernous hangar at Andrews Air Force Base (AFB) that Air Force One calls home, and everything the aircraft has to offer the president and his trusted advisers.

Nov. 22, 2013, marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. SAM 26000, Kennedy's Air Force One, is on display in the museum's Presidential Gallery. He flew aboard SAM 26000 to Dallas, Texas, where he was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963 -- and it was on this airplane that Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the new president. SAM 26000 then carried Kennedy's body and Johnson back to Washington, D.C.

President Barack Obama is in town today to discuss his immigration reform with local community and religious leaders at the Copernicus Center at 5216 West Lawrence Avenue in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side of Chicago. He landed at approximately 2:45 PM and is due out at 6:25 PM. The video starts with a pair of O'Hare Airport Operations trucks doing a 'runway sweep' for any FOD ( foreign object debris ) that may be on the runway or on the grass next to it. Landing was on Runway 32-Right ( 32R ) after a long 12-mile final as heard on ORD Tower frequency 126.900. The aircraft operating as Air Force One today was SAM ( Special Air Mission ) 29000, a Boeing 747-2G4B, tail number 29000 ( 92-9000, manufacturer's serial number / MSN / construction number / cn 23825 // line number / ln 685 ). It is the 685th Boeing 747 ever built. It is one of two VC-25A aircraft specifically used for Presidential and government VIP transport, and is scheduled to be retired before the end of this decade and replaced by brand-new, highly-modified Boeing 747-8i aircraft.
